CTC Training Center is hosting a workshop, “Clinical Implications of Mandated Reporting and Implicit Bias.” This will be an online training held on April 20, 2023 from 8:30am-11:30am on Zoom. Dr. Michelle Cutler, founder of Rooted Connections Counseling, will be presenting on this important topic. The cost is $60 and participants will receive 3 CEs.
This 3-hour oworkshop will provide a broad overview of the role of the mandated reporter, and the procedures by which to make a mandated report, per Illinois DCFS regulation. Most clinicians are familiar with these processes, but find the process frustrating, anxiety provoking, and overwhelming, as it relates to our relationships with our clients. In addition, clinical and ethical challenges exist related to the disproportionality of families of color in the Child Welfare System (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2016).
The clinical implications of working with families throughout this process will be discussed: issues such as when and how to involve caregivers, how to support families during the process, and how to maintain/repair the therapeutic relationship. This workshop will also address ways in which clinicians’ implicit and explicit biases may play a role in the mandated reporting process, as well as ways in which the Child Welfare system places clinicians committed to anti-racism in a conflict of values. Case examples and vignettes will be provided, discussion and community building encouraged!
