Lucha Vegan

This event is the first of its kind—a 100% vegan indoor market, with a backdrop of live rock music, leading up to the main event, a live Lucha Libre Wrestling Royal Rumble! The cruelty-free market will be filled with amazing food & and drink options—as well as local vendors selling their creations such as body care, jewelry, clothing, art, and more—all with a backdrop of live heavy metal and other genres of music. Attendees will also have opportunities to participate in DDP Yoga classes and enjoy live demonstrations from a variety of vendors. The evening will bring the main event—a wrestling match brought to us by Galli Lucha Libre—a local promoter who presents a hybrid combination of traditional Lucha Libre and American Wrestling to give fans the best of both worlds. Local vegan business owners Diane Mejia (Mindful Baking, Chicago) and Oscar Narvaez (The Chunky Scone, Highland Park) began laying the groundwork for Lucha Vegan prior to COVID-19 and envisioned this event as a fun way to raise awareness about veganism, a lifestyle and cause near and dear to their hearts. Lucha Libre literally translates into free fight or struggle, and Lucha Vegan represents their desire to fight for a healthier and more sustainable food system and to encourage awareness of the benefits of limiting and eliminating animal-based products.
