Pathways Toward Peace and the Coonley Antiracism Group will be coming together to celebrate Juneteenth, which has been celebrated since 1865 but did not become a federal holiday until 2021. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African American people in the United States. Until now, no events celebrating the day or Black Culture have been held in Chicago’s 47th ward. The event, open to the community, will feature entertainment, food and a marketplace with vendors selling products and services. Highlighting Black-owned businesses and providing activities for all ages, this family event is sure to be a fun afternoon for the whole family.
