Join us on Friday, April 14th for a special event with German author Thomas Brussig. Thomas will be reading from his novel Am Kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee, which is being released in English in April. This is a bilingual event, with readings in both English and German. Brussing will be accompanied by co-translator Jenny Watson of Marquette University. Am Kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee/ The Short End of the Sonnenallee is a novel set in Communist East Germany in the decade before the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is a rich, at times funny, at times sad, account of a group of interrelated individuals living in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, as the regime is showing signs of decay from within. This event is free to the public and is being presented in conjunction with the German Consulate of Chicago, Northwestern University, the Goethe Institute, and Loyola University. Light refreshments will be served.
