Why do Black and Trans people feel uncomfortable visiting predominantly white or cisgender business establishments? How can businesses demonstrate their commitment to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and Trans communities through their customer service? This workshop will create a supportive environment for your team to learn and practice anti-racist and trans-inclusive customer service.
A facilitator from Chicago Therapy Collective will lead us through key learning topics, including the most high-risk instances in which racist and trans-exclusionary services occur in businesses. We’ll discuss how racist and trans-exclusionary practices impact your businesses’ reputation and bottom line. You’ll also hear about how those practices contribute to the vulnerability and marginalization of our BIPOC, trans, and queer community members.
This workshop will include real-life accounts of how customer service goes wrong for Black and Trans customers, how these experiences shape their spending habits, and how they impact customers on a personal and community level. By the end of the afternoon, participants will have gained practical experience and tools for translating knowledge into action.
Tickets include admission, small bites from Land & Lake, and a craft beer or non-alcoholic cocktail. Registration closes at noon on Wednesday, April 11. This event is proudly presented by the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.
