DESCRIPTION:In this beginner- and intermediate-friendly class\, students will spend the day practicing 8 different embroidery stitches as they create a sampler to showcase what they've learned. This session will cover a group of stitches used for filling in areas of a design\, including:\n\n\n	Battlements couching\n	Padded satin stitch\n	Herringbone\n	Herringbone filling\n	Van Dyke stitch\n	Pekinese stitch\n	Chevron filling\n	Cretin stitch\n\n\nThe Stitch Builders series will also introduce you to foundational embroidery skills such as how to thread the needle\, how to start and end your threads\, and how to use an embroidery hoop.\n\nIncludes the following supplies:\n\n\n	4 skeins of DMC cotton floss\n	1 piece of Kona quilting cotton (14 in./ 35.6cm square)\n	1 size 9 embroidery/crewel needle (choose high-polish or hypoallergenic)\n	1 size 22 chenille needle (choose high-polish or hypoallergenic)\n	FSC-certified beechwood embroidery hoop (8 or 10 in./20 25cm)\n\n\nAbout your teacher:\n\nLauren Yeager is a textile artist with a particular interest in studying and preserving traditional garments and embroidery. This led her to studying with the Royal School of Needlework in the UK\, and later with the Japanese Embroidery Center and Ecole Lesage as well. She has a BFA in Fashion Design from Columbia College in Chicago\, and has received multiple awards for construction and design in costume and in hand embroidery\, including the DCASE individual artist grant from the City of Chicago.\n\nMost recently\, Lauren worked as a senior educator for the San Francisco School of Needlework & Design before independently launching Elba Embroidery. Previously\, Lauren was a production assistant for visual artist Nick Cave in his Chicago studio\, building soundsuits for museum installations and private collections. She has extensive experience as a freelance artist\, assisting in costume production for various performances and competitions.
