SUMMARY:DMT in Substance Use Recovery
DESCRIPTION:This course examines the integration and application of dance/movement therapy (DMT) theory and techniques in substance use counseling. It is grounded in the principles of harm reduction\, trauma informed and healing centered care\, and motivational interviewing. The ability to effectively facilitate the recovery process for those who use alcohol and/or other drugs in ways that are detrimental to their well-being is essential to the practice of DMT given the extraordinarily high correlations between substance use and mental illness as well as substance use and trauma. This course will afford you the opportunity to increase your own bodily awareness and understanding of experiences and concepts related to substance use while also equipping you with the knowledge and skills to facilitate DMT interventions to support the recovery process.\n\nPrerequisites:\n\nAt least 15 credits of master's education in a clinical program AND\n\nAt least one DMT course AND\n\nAt least one movement observation and assessment course
